Free Online Professional Development Course

School Library Learning 2.0
June 1- September 1, 2007
The California School Library Association 2.0 Team announces School Library Learning 2.0. This is a FREE on-line tutorial to guide you through the 'tools of the trade' that our students use every day: blogs, photos and images, RSS and newsfeeds, tagging and technorati, wikis, online applications, podcasting and downloadable audio, and much more. The coolest thing about this tutorial is that it gives you permission to play with all these great tools, AND gives you great ideas on how to create compelling library and curriculum collaborations.

Feedback from a dozen 'test drivers' has been overwhelmingly positive. This is a fun and fabulous way to learn together and strengthen our collective educational technology savvy.

Check it out at www.schoollibrarylearning2.blogspot.com and don't miss reading all ABOUT the program here.

This "Summer 2.0 Fun" program runs from June 1 through September 1, 2007. Early birds and eager beavers can start right away. WEEK #1 is the introduction to the 9-WEEK course. Registration is in WEEK #2.

The program is modeled after Helene Blower's (Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Library) fabulous 23 Things Learning 2.0 program we told you about some time ago and that to which Stephen Abrams says you MUST devote 15 minutes a day.

Let's join our California friends in learning and using all this new 2.0 technology! I'll bet my avatar looks more like you than your avatar! (Don't want it to look like me! Scary!)

Although not free, YALSA is offering some fabulous courses this summer, too. Registration for the course is available online from May 7 through June 15 at www.ala.org/yalsa. The cost for each course is $135 for YALSA members, $175 for ALA members, and $195 for non members. The course is the equivalent of a one day face-to-face workshop. YALSO offers tips on taking online courses on the YALSA website.
